On Saturday, a federal judge in San Antonio ordered the release of 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos and his father, Adrian Alexander Conejo Arias.
In a searing court order, US District Judge Fred Biery said: “Observing human behavior confirms that for some among us, the perfidious lust for unbridled power and the imposition of cruelty in its quest know no bounds and are bereft of human decency. And the rule of law be damned.”
Biery also wrote, “the case has its genesis in the ill-conceived and incompetently-implemented government pursuit of daily deportation quotas, apparently even if it requires traumatizing children."
At the end of his ruling, Biery included a photo of Liam Conejo Ramos and references to two lines in the Bible: "Jesus said, 'Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these," and "Jesus Wept."
On Sunday, Liam and Adriane were seen boarding a plane heading back to Minneapolis. ”I’m happy to finally be going home,” Liam’s father told ABC News.
The legal team representing Liam and his father said in a statement: “We are now working closely with our clients and their family to ensure a safe, timely reunion. We are pleased that the family will now be able to focus on being together and finding some peace after this traumatic ordeal.”
