There is a security alert in DRC - there is an uptick in voilence between DRC/Rwanda/Barundi borderland areas. The alert was issued (by the US Secretary of State) in December 2025.

I’ve trained to be an immigration court observer/friend of the court with I-ARC here in NYC. I’ve sat in horror watching the procedings at the IC level. Immigration Courts are not - repeat not - Article III courts. While the district court is (which ruled he is “deportable”) I need people to get this: People are being forced to ‘self deport’ or DOJ counsel are asking to “pretermit” people — human beings — to third party countries. Including minors. Every day.

The US has contractual relationships with these so called “safe” third party countries. Here’s the deal, they aren’t safe. I was at a hearing when a man was being forced to go to Uganda. He is from El Salvador. No arrest record. Luckily there were pro-bono immigration lawyers there and we got them to intervene on his behalf and at least get a reprieve.

I’ve been to Uganda twice reporting, and I love the country’s people. But, it is not even safe for it’s own people from a persecution perspective. DRC is still dealing internal conflict years after the refugee crisis from the Rwandan genocide. This is a violation of international asylum law, customary international law and is part of a series of horrific human rights abuses Trump is meting around the world.

Yellow fever is endemic in DRC. To travel there voluntarily a person has to show proof of innoculation. I can guarantee that the US government isn’t getting anyone vaccinated. I am quite sure there is a waiver in place allowing this f’ing abomination to continue.

There are ways for people to file for intervention by international treaty bodies - once people are in countries bound by them. DRC is a party to the ICC, and the UN - there are rapid response provisions that can be invoked. I hope it doesn’t come to that and someone makes this shit stop, but DRC is part of the EAC now - maybe there are some people there we can get to help the folx already there, that we have deported already.

Furious.
