Make money doing the work you believe in
Do you ken who is on your ballot? [ken, v.: to know; to understand]
Great!
But do you know what offices those people are actually running for?
Knowing the candidates is only half the job. Before you decide who should hold an office, you need to ken what that office actually does, what authority comes with it, and how its decisions can affect you.
Sometimes the name makes that obvious.
Sometimes... not so much.
Here in Texas, one great example is the Railroad Commission of Texas. From the name, you'd probably expect it to regulate railroads.
It doesn't.
In fact, it hasn't regulated railroads in decades.
Today, it regulates major parts of Texas's oil and natural-gas industries, pipelines, and surface mining.
That's why knowing the name of the office isn't enough. You need to know what that office actually does.
Texas is our example, but your ballot may look very different. State and local offices, their names, and their responsibilities vary depending on where you live.
So check YOUR ballot. Look up the offices. Find out what they actually do before you decide who you want doing the job.
And now Ken tHB wants to hear from you:
What state or local office where YOU live has a name that doesn't make it obvious what the office actually does?
Tell us what it is and what it actually does. Let's see how many wonderfully confusing examples we can find across the country.
