π‘ Feminism misdiagnosed the problem
The problem was never that female-coded work was lesser.
The problem was that it was not properly recognised.
Motherhood, care, early childhood, family continuity, emotional regulation, community cohesion, teaching, nursing, elder care, and social stability were never secondary functions.
They are foundational functions.
But male-coded economic hierarchy valued the visible outputs of civilisation more than the relational conditions that made civilisation possible.
So feminism should have fought for the equal value of female-coded work.
Not just respect.
Real value:
status,
pay,
dignity,
protection,
cultural honour,
and civilisational recognition.
Instead, feminism accepted the male-coded hierarchy and told women to climb it.
That was the mistake.
Because equality was confused with interchangeability.
Women are capable of male-coded work, but capability does not mean the work will fulfil them over a lifetime.
Many male-coded roles require long-term autonomous effort:
solitude,
competition,
abstraction,
hierarchy,
delayed reward,
impersonal standards,
and deep mastery across time.
For men, that can be fulfilling because the reward is often non-local:
purpose,
legacy,
responsibility,
protection,
competence,
and sacrifice for people they love.
For many women, the same structure does not provide the same depth of fulfilment because it is comparatively non-relational.
The ability is there.
The reward structure is mismatched.
So women leave relational communities that historically gave them emotional continuity and enter workplaces that do not naturally fulfil them.
Then the workplace is blamed for the lack of fulfilment.
So the workplace is changed.
It becomes more relational, more emotionally managed, more consensus-driven, more socially comfortable.
But that changes the nature of the work itself.
Accountability softens.
Hierarchy weakens.
Standards become negotiable.
Emotional safety competes with mastery.
Relational comfort replaces functional excellence.
Meanwhile, the female-coded roles that actually sustain civilisation remain undervalued, underfilled, and culturally dismissed.
So everybody loses.
Men lose purpose in male-coded domains.
Women lose fulfilment in female-coded domains.
Children lose the quality of care and continuity they need.
Families lose relational stability.
Workplaces become more emotionally comfortable but less excellent.
Civilisation loses both depth and nurture.
That is the diagnosis.
Feminism did not correct the hierarchy.
It climbed it.
And in doing so, it left the most important work in the world still undervalued.
