Excellent reporting and interview Katie Phang. Thank you for being a Congressmen who truly represents us Joaquin Castro. As a Texan, it was alarming to hear that Abbott has sent the TX guard to the private detention (prison) center in Dilley and that they have been ordered to wear plain camo and not their official uniforms, I assume to cover the complicity of the state in this dehumanization. Abbott also had the peaceful protesters there gassed (see witness testimony from Mothers for Democracy post on 1/29/26). Hearing about the cruelty, the guards making fun of people needing dialysis and not receiving care, of the Latino paradox (Mike Madrid post 2/2/26) of many of the guards being Spanish speakers and refusing to use Spanish with the detainees, the measles confusion, and crowded situations, the color coding of detainee clothing, knowing most people held are NOT criminal, the keeping of people for many months who have agreed to be deported instead of actually deporting them to assumably drive more profit for the private prisons and cronies of so many of our elected officials…it’s all heartbreaking. The grift and corruption is so clear and yet so obscured from so many. Your reporting is invaluable, Katie, and your testimony and ability to speak truth to power is heroic, Congressman Castro. Thank you.
