SAN FRANCISCO - Tianyu Fang and I are hosting a book club for Bruno Latour’s “The Pasteurization of France” at our place in Hayes Valley! we start Feb 17, will meet Sundays at 4pm for four weeks.
His pitch to me: it’s a science studies book, dealing with how “pasteurization” as a concept took off as a “scientific meme.” Of particular interest here is how how Louis Pasteur was able to parlay credibility across disciplines without ever really being recognized in one. ie microbiologists thought of him as a credible virologist, virologists regarded him as a chemist, etc, across many disciplines.
Super excited about this, message me if you’re interested and I’ll add you to the Signal group!
