think I finally figured out my word for the year, and it’s versatility.

We’ve had a lot of conversations lately—especially on social media—about versatility in horses, and the more I thought about it, the more I realized it fits way beyond horsemanship. It’s a word that’s followed me most of my life.

I actually remember years ago when I was working at the gym in Manning during one of my annual productivity reviews. My boss told me something that stuck with me so deeply that I still giggle about it today… because it’s still true.

He said my biggest strength and my biggest weakness were the exact same thing.

My versatility.

My ability to jump in anywhere, help in any situation, and figure out how to do just about anything was a huge strength—but it could also be my downfall. Because when you can do a lot, it’s easy to put too much on your plate. And when that happens, you risk spreading yourself too thin, dropping balls, or not being as strong as you could be in certain areas.

That lesson has stayed with me for a long time.

So this year, versatility isn’t just about horses for me. It’s about learning how to use that strength wisely—being intentional with where I place my energy, what I say yes to, and what I allow myself to carry.

I think this is a conversation we’ll be coming back to a lot this year—both in horsemanship and in personal growth.

How do y’all feel about the word versatility?

And do you have a word for the year?
