The other day, I joined Danielle Moodie for a live segment she’s started called “The Fire-pit.” At the end, she does this thing where she asks you what you want to throw into the fire-pit (figuratively, of course). My answer was sympathy.
While I am not happy about the hardship and tragedy that is being visited upon the farmers, ranchers, and regular citizens, I have no sympathy whatsoever for their hardships.
I spent the better part of Trump 1.0 trying to negotiate, understand, empathize, and convince them. But in the end, they convinced me. They made me understand that for them, racism, misogyny, bigotry, criminality, and even violence are not deal breakers for them.
It is only now, that the pain they intended for the rest of us has affected them directly, that they see the light.
