As a reader, I am a sucker for anything told through the perspective of a four-legged creature, and Gracie is an animal who completely entranced me. The Chicago deli setting at Thanksgiving is a beautifully warm setting and a wonderful place for closure, reconciliation, and love to begin again. While the tone might appear overly sentimental, it still has a comforting feeling rather than an overwhelming, "sugarcoated" feeling. The soft nudged of this "angel" from Heaven encourage everyone in attendance to reach out to each other and connect on a deeper level. This story is short, but filled with a heavy dose of love, making it a perfect choice for readers who are looking for a heartwarming book during stressful times but who still want to support the value of family and a fresh beginning.
