The problem with new Trek is us (Draft)

• Star Trek is an intrinsically hopeful show

• We have, really since 9/11 become far less hopeful as a species

• It’s harder to believe in a utopian future for humanity

• But old Trek is still good for those of a certain age

• Watching 60s-90s Trek reminds of of a time when we used to hope
