The app for independent voices

For years we’ve heard non-stop about how ‘populist’ leaders are immature, authoritarian buffoons, their supporters are all sheep swayed by ‘right wing misinformation’, and what we desperately need is a return of ‘adults in the room.’ What this boils down to, essentially, is simply an assertion by liberals and progressives that anyone who questions their dogma is a baddy, even if the criticisms being made of that dogma are entirely legitimate and important.

In the US, voters were told on repeat for years that Democrats are the ONLY choice for anyone who cares about democracy. They’re the ‘grown ups’ who will protect us against the forces of illiberalism. Yet, lo and behold, they have waged ‘lawfare’ against their opponent (precisely what they warned Trump would do to them), they have sought to leverage massive tech monopoly power to covertly shadow ban and censor critics, they’ve spread deeply misleading racially divisive groupthink, they’ve led the free world into deadly wars and foreign policy disasters…

Biden, a ‘safe pair of hands’, can literally barely string two words together. Yet the commentariat continue to parrot this nonsense.

It’s not just stupid, it’s a sham. And it’s the same story in the UK and across the west.

The EU is held up as a bastion of freedom and democracy against supposedly horrible right wing Brexiteers. In fact, however, its leaders repeatedly seek to implement deeply undemocratic policies by the backdoor. Elon Musk has just exposed yet another example of this (see tweet below), but it’s far from the first. They’ve overturned numerous legitimate referenda they disagree with, backed media and social media censorship…

You needn’t be on board with everything the populist alternatives propose to realise that what’s held up as ‘decent, serious liberal politics’ is anything but.
