Worth watching this short (40 sec) clip of Elon Musk discussing social media censorship.
When Twitter was coded to be biased against conservatives/heterodox views, and in favour of liberal/left positions, liberal and left wing activists and politicians gaslit everyone into believing it was a ‘far right conspiracy’ to point out that such bias existed. People, literally including the president of America (whatever you may think of the guy), were effectively censored on the platform.
To claim this was illiberal or to suggest that certain views and arguments were being deebosted for wrongthink was in itself treated as a form of wrongthink, despite the fact that, as the Twitter files subsequently proved, such suspicions were entirely accurate.
Elon Musk bought the site and removed the censorship and the bias. As a result, it became a more meritocratic platform on which all views were permitted, and there was not a blatant finger on the scale. It is that unbiased set up that we are now being told en masse is rigged, is a cesspit, is beyond the pale and so on. As they are now unable to rig the game in their favour, liberal and leftist politicians are ostentatiously boasting of their intention to log off forever (as if anyone cares (also: they inevitably don’t)).
This tells you a lot about how these people operate.
Of course, the very nature of free speech means that some very unpleasant voices have been able to gain a large audience. And yes, there is a lot of utter bollocks out there, often entirely fabricated, and some of that poses different problems. But there has ALWAYS been a lot of bollocks on Twitter, it’s just in the past the left and liberal bollocks was generally been treated as entirely rational and, even respectable and ‘important.’
No matter how they dress it up - these people cannot stand having their arguments exposed to fair scrutiny. Or their opponents being granted the chance to express their concerns freely. Elon is a heretic to them, and they are ramping up the demonisation accordingly.
