What is obscene, really?

I’m hard-pressed to think of a single movie quote that influenced my worldview more than this one from Apocalypse Now. Maybe John Milius or Francis Ford Coppola wrote it. But given the way Brando’s scenes went during the shoot, I wouldn’t be surprised if he improvised it. Apparently he showed up overweight, drunk, and unable or unwilling to memorize lines — so he just rambled for days on end. But, man, he really hit on something here. Almost 50 years later and it still hits hard.
