Trump’s decision to appoint an envoy to Greenland is not just about oil and other mineral wealth, it’s about dividing NATO and Europe.
Trump sees all foreigners as enemies; under his administration America has no allies and doesn’t need them and that includes NATO.
He hates the unity of the EU because its 27 countries add up to a major economic competitor. He’s already sowed the seeds of that division, with his recent strategic plan which aims to force Europe to buy weapons from the U.S. to support Ukraine or it loses all remaining intelligence and military support. These weapons will have to bought with European taxpayers money as Trump is likely to issue more threats to Europe if it tries using frozen Russian assets.
Like a mafia boss, Trump will make an offer to Denmark, that they cannot refuse. He will at some point in the near future issue an official document which states in very many words, something along the lines of; ‘give us Greenland or we take it by force.’
This will cause Denmark to appeal to NATO for physical support and the EU for diplomatic support. The latter will be easy to come by, but the former?
Would NATO even be able to consider defending Greenland against another NATO member, especially when that member is as powerful as the US and currently under the control of a madman?
Whatever the answer, 2026 is not going to be a happy new year for anyone except the mega rich and the mega powerful.
