“Voice” and “representation” are ideas which undercut power only held by people recognising their commonality in class terms.
Obviously if Bad Bunny is successful as a performer of course that’s great but to assert that it’s going to reclaim any sort of power is a delusion.
I’m not worried about “master narratives” which was a reactionary response to class struggle, taught extensively in universities’ social sciences departments and to be expected if you are truly following capitalism’s ability to co-opt and monetise everything up to and including the performance of gender.
We have been seriously gulled and I include myself in that. I am now desperate for answers because we have an existential crisis.
It is evident to me that the only way to get rid of the violent, erratic and unpredictable system making our planetary home unfit to live in and making the rich enormously richer daily is through all the Bad Bunnies and you and me and Ryan and everyone together.
Voice is not the same as representation. Nor is counterstory that overturns master narratives not for you but for those relegated to dehumanizing tropes. It’s not Bad Bunny’s job to overthrow empire.
