“Yesterday, at approximately 10:00 AM in Harrisonburg, VA - on my mother. The most hard working, loving, beautiful woman. Was detained by ice agents on our way to drop me off to school. My mom has dropped sweat and tears for 20+ years here in the U.S working her ass off for me and my brother. Giving us hope of a better future and better education.
My mother presented her documents to HSI agents. Her work permit she recently got, her license, her registration. The agents then told my mom to step out the car multiple times and I asked them multiple times why and what did she do. They never gave a reason but kept asking that she steps out the car. My mother then stepped out not wanting anything to escalate for my protection because I am a minor. As you can see in the first video them speaking. My mom recently got her ssn card and didn't memorize the numbers to it and for that reason the HSI officers wanted to arrest her. As my mother tried opening the door to the car. The HSI officer used high aggression towards my mom and tackled her to the car and then the floor. As i watched all of this happening the officers insisted multiple times for me to get back in the car but I didn't listen and continued to record this heart breaking moment. He then continued to use aggression towards my mom by pulling her shirt while putting handcuffs on her and she already had her hands behind her back. After the 2nd video cut the HSI officer handed me the key to my mothers car and they took off leaving me on the side of the road alone. After seeing the car take off with my mother inside as a 16 year old. I sat on the side of the road for 10 minutes crying, angry, feeling guilty, and hopeless as I waited on my family members to reach me. My mother is being held at a jail. Where the jail is holding her for immigration. I've only received 2 phone calls from her in the span of almost 48 hours.
She wants this heard. This is something I never expected I would have to go through and there wasn't anyway to prepare myself to go through it. I just want my mom to come home.
She's not a criminal. - wrote by Jaykie Funez 16 year old daughter
