In Mississippi, police unlawfully arrested a young Black man something we’ve seen far too many times.

Officers are supposed to protect rights, not punish people for using them. The First Amendment protects speech, even when it offends them. Being “disrespected” isn’t a crime. Taking someone’s freedom requires a clear reason under the law not personal feelings or ego.

When police use unnecessary force or violent arrests to silence and control, it exposes a culture of abuse that goes unchecked.

Law enforcement should serve the people not dominate them. Until there’s real accountability, this cycle of injustice will continue.
