A few days ago, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce got married. Following the online reactions, what struck me was how quickly a celebrity wedding morphed into yet another digital battlefield.
The reason? Adam Sandler officiated the ceremony. For many people, he's simply a comedian and a longtime friend of the couple. But for some pro-Palestinian activists online, his presence was enough to pull the wedding into the Israel-Gaza conversation.
Whether you agree with Adam Sandler's politics or not is beside the point. My point is that modern digital activism has become increasingly parasitic, latching onto whatever already commands public attention. Nothing is allowed to just exist on its own terms anymore.
