What I meant was that you have taken the same position as the Stirrer, not the woke mob.
When I study the syntax, you are right and I am wrong. Technically, I was not saying what I thought I was saying, and you interpreted me correctly.
However, what I meant to say was the opposite of what I actually said!
This goes to show the importance of syntax, I guess.
I’m not as fastidious or as assiduous of a writer as you are. My work is full of errors.
I don’t expect everything that I say to be taken seriously, therefore I give myself the license to say all kinds of crazy shit.
I’ll sometimes leave typos in my work on purpose, because my personal motto is “FUCK QUALITY”. I’m more interested in expressing my thoughts than in expressing them well.
My reasoning is that you just naturally get better at expressing something once you know what it is that you’re trying to express.
Also, I’m a Virgo and have a perfectionistic streak which I need to actively counter-act, because for years and years I didn’t like writing because very few years I ever wrote were up to my own standards.
Now I do like my own writing, and enjoy writing, which is something pretty new for me. Maybe I should write a self-help book called FUCK QUALITY. I’ve definitely helped myself with this approach.
It’s kind of surprising that I'm taken seriously as a political thinker when I say so many things that aren’t meant to be understood, but I’ve figured out that the smarter someone is, the more likely they are to enjoy writing that forces them to think.
I remember a poem which compared the art of poetry to that of a pitcher (in baseball). It went something like this:
“His art is to hit the mark that he seems not to aim at.”
Maybe that was what Bukowski meant when he said “Don’t Try”.
In any case, thank you for accepting my apology, and although you may not identity as a hero, I don’t know if that matters that much.
If you are greatly admired by your peers, you are their hero. There’s nothing unusual about heroism. For a lot of people, their heroes are family members. Heroism is normal.
There’s a taboo against heroism that’s deeply entrenched in the Canadian psyche, and I suspect that antipathy towards heroism is characteristic of statist conditioning throughout the British Empire.
In Mexico, being a hero is a good thing. And that’ s a big part of the reason that revolutionary movements tend to be much more successful here. It’s because people believe in heroism, and it’s culturally accepted to be a hero.
But if you don’t want to be referred to as a hero, I will respect your wishes.
Sincerely,
crow
P.S. The term “grooming” seems to have entered political discourse fairly recently, and I’m not sure how to feel about it.
You’re one of my favourite writers because you use words consistently, meaning that you have definite ideas about what words mean and how they should be used.
How do you feel about the “grooming panic”?
I kinda feel like the woke zealots aren’t totally out to lunch on this one. Some right-wingers really are foaming at the mouth over an overhyped threat.
Stranger danger was one of those fear porn campaigns that has torn society apart, and we’re living with the consequences of that now. When I was a kid, we did what we wanted until it got dark. If parents gave their kids that kind of freedom now, their neighbours would call the Children’s Aid Society of them.
Stranger Danger are a bigger problem that kiddy-fiddlers, if you ask me. I think the anti-trans folks getting baited.
I don’t see how anti-trans hysteria is better than trans hysteria. I don’t want to get stuck in a feedback loop. If that matters, people are going to die.
Obviously, trans people are a tiny minority, and will come on the losing side if things get violent. And that’s what I think
These people are insane, and can’t be reasoned with. But the instinct for self-preservation is deeper than the rational mind.
Trans people who glorify violence need a reality check. Cis people outnumber them at least by three to five orders of magnitude.
(Did that make sense? I’m bad at math.)
For some reason I can’t paste the link here, but if you search “Bill Burr on pedophiles #shorts”, you’ll see a great take on Stranger Danger.
P.P.S. Do you think that blackface is inherently racist? I make a defence of blackface in the comments on the “Woke Zealots” piece. By the way, I also added a quote from you in that piece. Let me know what you think!
