In terms of the digestive rhythm, the first to come on for newborns is the daily oscillation of the microbiome.
This happens in the first month of life.
It manifests as slowing down to one poo (or less) per day—this is a very easy stage for elimination communication (EC), which all our ancestors practiced in one form or another up until disposable diapers became available.
It is 1000% easier to clean a baby who has pooed in a pot than one who has pooed in a diaper.
Much more slowly is the consolidation of pees to daytime.
This is the long tail of EC.
I’m hosting a live call with Andrea Olsen of GoDiaperFree, a mom of six who has been teaching EC for a very, very long time.
I think this is a very important (and often overlooked) part of circadian development.
Catch us live (or on the replay which will be out next week).
