Now the Growthfund is evolving from its original purpose of debt reduction to a new role as a catalyst for national investment. Many of the assets that it currently holds are not suitable for privatisation, but are now generating substantial profits. With the agreement of Greece's creditors, the fund will retain a quarter of its proceeds to back strategic investments in new projects alongside the private sector, including technology initiatives and the digital, energy and transport infrastructure needed to catalyse foreign direct investment.
