In my experience a lot of folks have slept on the dangers we faced over that last 9 years, MAGA was odious and unseemly and many progressive leaning people just tuned out.

Your level of privilege dictated how easy that was to accomplish but odds are if you are even mildly affluent it wasn’t that much of a stretch.

The thing is that many folks, new to the frontlines so to speak, have no idea what we are truly up against.

J6 attackers weren’t outliers, they represented the mental make up of much of MAGA.

That is why it was so easy for Trump & GOP to rewrite the history of that day. Personally, I have been speaking out since 16, someone STILL sends rat poison to an old apartment of mine in NYC.

You get used to it-sadly but their actions don’t come as a surprise to me.

I have received more death threats than I can count, when I did live shows MAGA would target venues & promoters (not that I was any sort of huge draw, but what they are looking for is zero pushback-it’s a dangerous cult).

DO NOT underestimate the ability of your fellow Americans to turn a blind eye to suffering & cruelty Trump has planned.

I doubt your average MAGA voter has even a mild clue as to what living under an authoritarian ruler will be like but my guess is their own fear and cowardice will allow them to turn a blind eye to all sorts of evil deeds.

Or tell themselves that the folks on the receiving end of his cruelty somehow deserved it as you see in their hatred towards LGBTQIA+ & migrants.

Your average German in the ‘30’s was a lot better educated and culturally sophisticated than average Trump voters whose minds have been filled with Fox News and Far Right pundits for decades now.

NRA alone has served them Kremlin-cooked pys-ops & honeypots for years and has suburban Americans arming themselves like militias ready for their siege (this is not by accident). They’ve grown so dependent on their high-caliber weaponry they are willing to overlook the routine slaughter of school children as the price we must pay for the glory of the AR-15.

This is NOT how sane countries act.

In Texas and the Bible Belt beyond this reactionary lurch is buttressed by a burgeoning Christofascist movement that would make the teachings of Christ only applicable to white men and the women who serve them.

It’s not just scary, it’s anti-science and downright insane.

We are in deep shit folks and you better act soon. I don’t have any answers but I do know what more of the same will get you.

Also, don’t kid yourself about supporting PACs and politicians that want more of your money. We need less podcasts and more protests. If we are up against an algorithm owned by oligarchs no amount of ads or witty banter will make a difference. We saw that this last go around.

We need boots on the ground, we need courage.

We need GOOD TROUBLE. Al Green gets it.🙏
