Vice President Kamala Harris is considering a run for Governor of California, and my response is an emphatic YES! This would be a big step, not just for her but for the whole Democratic Party. As Governor of the biggest state in the country, she would have real power to make changes that could influence the whole nation.

Many people think being President is the most powerful job in politics, but in reality, true power often resides at the state level.  Governors make decisions that affect millions of people, control state budgets, and lead on important issues without getting stuck in Washington politics. California, as an economic powerhouse and a leader in progressive policy, offers Harris a platform to drive meaningful change and solidify the Democratic Party's position in national politics.

Full disclosure:  I didn’t originally support Harris becoming Vice President. I wanted her to stay in the Senate, and become the chair of the Judiciary committee or been chosen for the Supreme Court. But as Governor, she would have the power to put her ideas into action and bring energy to the Democratic Party.

If Harris becomes Governor,  Harris could demonstrate the kind of effective leadership that wins elections and shifts political momentum. A successful tenure as Governor would not only strengthen the Democratic Party but also prove that state-level leadership is where real progress is made. If she runs, she has my full support.
