Nathan Cofnas is such a curious guy. I am fascinated by his mindset.

After years of writing about how smart and brilliant leftists must be because there are no right wing academics, he pens a giant essay in which he admits he was completely duped by a single document in which Cambridge claimed to care about free speech and intellectual freedom. So he went to work there and discovered the reality was one of violent mobs texting each other stuff like, “can we just all order ski masks and turn up on a voi and beat the shit out of him”.

He even describes the entire situation there as “retarded”, says the leadership “poured gasoline on the fire”, makes it clear that everything the academics had ever promised him was an outright lie

… and then …

he goes on to defend it as having great research output! Because “Woke Cambridge is producing Nobel Laureates, Fields Medalists, etc.” whereas right wing institutions do not.

This “research output” is merely academics giving each other awards ceremonies, the same kind of pageantry that duped him to begin with. Cofnas is so academia-brained that even after discovering that nobody anywhere at Cambridge cares about what’s true at all he still can’t stop himself being impressed by their song and dance!

No wonder they steamrollered him.

The rational response to what happened at Cambridge should be to conclude that academic output is worthless because you can never know if it’s just a pile of lies. It should be a newfound respect for people like John Carter, who write articles arguing for the dissolution of the universities. It should not be a desperate WW2 Japanese style kamikaze self-immolation in which being chased out of one university causes him to immediately seek solace in another, where he is “very happy” because they only violently assault him with bottles then escape on motorbikes, instead of doing that while also calling him a gay Nazi.

If he doesn’t break the bizarre vice-like Stockholm Syndrome academia has got him in there’s a real risk Cofnas will end up murdered on campus by a left wing fanatic just like Charlie Kirk was. And that would be horrible. He’s a dogged and valuable researcher, and the world is better off for having him. I just wish he’d find a way to do his work outside of the universities (and there are plenty of ways).
