Jesus’s Triumphus
Palm Sunday is obviously meant to evoke the prophecy in Zechariah about the king coming humbly, seated on an ass; but equally obviously, and implicit in its other name, the Triumphal Entry, is that Jesus is here doing what many a Roman general and emperor had done, travelling up the via Sacra through the forum and up the Capitoline to Jupiter’s Temple there in the wake of a grand military victory.
