We decided to try a bunch of new recipes on vacation, including Mrs. Peters’ birthday cake. It felt like my bravest step in the kitchen since we tried Patricia Polacco’s Ugly Pasta.

Mary Ann Hoberman wrote up a slightly adapted recipe from her book, and we adapted it further by leaving out the food coloring. It was surprisingly delicious.

Like the Peters family, we might be willing to eat it every day.
