As a Swedish philosopher, I am often asked what my country has done for philosophy. This is the only honest answer:
Sweden’s greatest contribution to the history of philosophy was that in 1649 Descartes (already famous across Europe and at the height of his career) was invited to Stockholm by Queen Christina. After arriving, the Swedish winter became so cold that Descartes soon caught pneumonia and died.
Sweden’s contribution to philosophy is, therefore, accidentally killing René Descartes.
