A common thread linking my favourite Substack people is that they do not instantly pronounce on the latest Thing. I'm increasingly repelled by the emotional arousal that news events provoke in many people who seem compelled to instantly react.

Another aspect of this is my preference to wait and see. This is partly due to a personal leaning toward consequentialism, flowing from scepticism that there are a priori moral ‘truths’.

This governs how I react internally to displays of thrill or dismay at the latest event. I just do not trust reactivity of that kind.
