This wasn’t planned, so I’m just going to write it and let it fall
-REFLECTIONS ON ANDOR (and how the show truly became relevant to me)
As a Black man living in 🇺🇸: the dynamic of Clem and Maarva as everyday “revolutionaries” (who were on-screen together for mere moments) resonated with me on a deeper level than any character from the French75 from One Battle After Another…
this isn’t an indictment of PTA for his adaptation of Vineland into a feature film… it’s an acknowledgement that Gilroy, and supporting show-runners, said: “we are going to INTENTIONALLY center the lessons Cassian took from Clem [a Black man!] and acknowledge how much his life and publicly brutal death impacted the fashion in which Cassian’s identity evolved”…
this is a DEFIANT repudiation of the ignorance behind movements to scuttle significance of Diversity/Equity/Inclusion and the writing on Andor stands as the boldest, least apologetic for “ruffling some feathers” since HBO Watchmen…
there I did it, now I’m gonna go take a quick walk
thanks for taking a few moments to let me pop off!
