I just got to say publicly, because I have had to say it in several conversations since yesterday, what Megyn Kelly was spewing is nothing new, it’s lip service she was paying to a long tradition of Abrahamic religious leaders & civic leaders that represent conservative orthodoxy, even in entertainment news & the world of capital, & she is particularly beholden to support for her platform from Evangelical Christians for whom male dominance is a celebratory spiritual movement & the leaders of that movement (as well as other Christian Nationalists & even within the Mormon movement) are often expressing openly the belief that men who are ‘zealous & devout’ are entitled to taking ‘child brides’, which would be the culture she is publicly offering consideration to in her recent statements…it is notable that these beliefs also permeate Judaic & Islamic sects in a similar way that they do Christian sects & that there is a long history of ‘child bride’ culture around the world that only recently has received legal pushback…so the real horror is we haven’t begun to evolve enough & this specter is a deep traumatic wound that is carried by a large portion of women I have encountered in my lifetime…calling out the behavior her words attempt to transmute into a ‘harmless’ presentation is important, but I believe it is also necessary to be exposing it & connecting it to the historical implications of the most damaging aspect of patriarchy & acknowledging that we are surrounded by sisters, mothers, daughters, friends, lover’s & neighbors that have suffered abuse while they were not yet adults & it was codified in their community belief system or in an idea a male dominant hierarchy that superseded their ability to be heard or to heal & that there are children who are suffering from this abuse right now, as adults point fingers & debate events in the recent past, that this abusive culture exists right now & it is popular enough that a news entertainer with a large platform, who once moderated presidential debates, can publicly cow tow to that culture in order to galvanize her ratings & attempt to pursue relevance is a further symptom of the depth & power that this cycle of abuse manifests in our current reality…
