I went to see Harriet Tyce speak at an Edinburgh International Book Festival event last night.

I felt quite high brow!

Anyway, it was interesting & comforting to hear Harriet discuss how she writes. Like me, she allows things to unfold rather than having a strict plan. She has a thread which she follows, but characters do things that take her by surprise.

Phew! It seems decades of making it up as I go along are paying off.
