Diaspora Politics in Separatist Movements

The following was originally part of a much longer, much denser article. I decided to break it in two to make it more easily digestible. I wouldn’t want anyone to choke on my words.

Islamist penetration of Western separatist/nationalist movements is where the political science becomes most interesting. Progressive separatist parties across the West—Québec Solidaire, the Scottish National Party, Catalonia’s Republican Left (ERC)—actively recruit immigrant and minority communities. It is strategic coalition-building rooted in civic nationalism. These separatists think they’re using the migrants.. yet, who is using whom?

Why Civic Nationalist Parties Court Immigrants

1. Civic vs. Ethnic Nationalism

These parties explicitly reject blood-and-soil nationalism. Their pitch: anyone living in the territory is part of the nation. Independence is framed as a progressive project—building a more equitable, welcoming society free from the constraints of the larger state (Ottawa, London, Madrid). The native western separatists believe they are co-opting the migrant/Muslim voting bloc. The truth is the inverse. It’s the white useless idiots who’re being used to support an agenda of civilizational subversion. Yet a contradiction exists in that these progressive separatists very often support progressive “Open Border” policies which seek the erasure of National boundaries for large nation states like America, Canada and Great Britain. The hypocrisy is mind boggling.
