You don't need to spend $$$ to start with PLCs. 🛑
Everyone says industrial automation is an expensive industry to enter. And they are right. The hardware costs a fortune.
But the knowledge? The knowledge is now free. I collected the 7 best resources to learn programming (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, CODESYS) without spending a dime:
1. AutomationDirect A complete video course. Pure practical control knowledge—from zero to hero.
-
2. RealPars Literally "Netflix for Engineers". The best visuals in the world. You will understand the most complex concepts in 5 minutes.
-
3. OpenPLC Project The first fully free, open-source PLC. Download the soft, simulate on your PC, and learn without buying any hardware.
-
4. SolisPLC Solid tutorials for the market giants: Siemens (TIA Portal) and Allen-Bradley.
-
5. Hegamurl A goldmine for TIA Portal. Concrete examples, zero fluff.
-
6. Tim Wilborne Wires, connections, screwdrivers. The man who explains how the hardware actually works, not just the code.
-
7. Jakob Sagatowski (My favorite ⭐) A must for the ambitious. He teaches how to write "Clean Code" and TDD (Test Driven Development) in PLCs.
💡 The hardware barrier remains, but the knowledge barrier has crumbled. You can become a PLC programmer with just a laptop and the will to learn.
Question for you... Siemens or Allen-Bradley? Which one are you starting with? 👇
