According to his lawyer and eminent human rights bodies, not just “campaigners”, Dr Hussam Abu Safiya is being tortured in an Israeli prison. While we get on with our comfortable lives. Dr Hussam Abu Safiya, the soul of humanity is being slowly killed before our eyes.

This eminent paediatrician, one of the most high profile doctors from Gaza, abducted 18 months ago by Israel, is reportedly at risk of imminent death in solitary confinement in an Israeli prison in a living hell after reportedly being beaten with a hammer and a baton by five Israeli prison guards.

This paediatrician refused to leave his post at Kamal Adwan Hospital despite threats to his and his family’s lives. Still, he refused to abdicate the responsibility of caring for his patients, maimed children and NICU babies, displaced families and his colleagues.

But still, the Israeli regime attempted to smear him, and claimed that he a “Colonel” in Hamas, and was sheltering Hamas fighters.

This is no terrorist.

Look at this channel 4 footage. What do you see?

A doctor treating his patients in the most tragic of circumstances, and putting himself at risk.

Women, children, babies, the elderly, the maimed and lost. Every single one without a home. Do they look like “Hamas fighters”.

Dr Hussam pleaded with the world to intervene in the destruction of Gaza’s health care system, as early as October 2023, in a op-ed for the New York Times.

Baseless smears by the Israeli regime have been deployed ad nauseum with the complicity of mainstream western press.

If those smears were true, why 18 months on has Dr Hussam Abu Safiya not been charged or put on trial? Anyone can hurl smears. Where is the due process? There is none because they are intent on breaking his body and forcing a confession from him. He is being tortured because he has shone a light on Israel’s destruction of Gaza’s healthcare system and the genocide of Palestine.

Remember the 15 medical workers who were executed at point blank range by the Israeli army. Israel tried to smear them. It did not work. The truth came out.

Remember eminent orthopaedic surgeon, Dr Adnan Al Bursh who was left to die, half naked from the waist down, bleeding in the prison court yard. They still have not released his body. Israel attempted to smear him too, to cover up the torture of Dr Adnan Al Bursh.

Dr Hussam was heartbroken at the thought of abandoning the NICU babies at Kamal Adwan Hospital to the same fate as the premature babies at Al Shifa Hospital in November 2023, who were left to die in their incubators despite Israeli assurances.

(Israel claimed there were weapons inside the incubators. To justify killing everyone even newborn babies.)

He had no choice but to refuse to obey Israeli orders to evacuate Kamal Adwan Hospital, even though they targeted and killed his beloved 15 year old son, Ibrahim.

What kind of monster must you be to beat up a person whose hands are skilled to save lives.

There is only one reason that Dr Hussam has been tortured for the past 18 months. In an attempt by Israel to force him into a false confession. What they dare not do is follow due process. Because that would expose the lies. So they literally want him dead. Hence the reports from his lawyer about his deteriorating health as a result of increased torture.

Finally, I watched Professor Nick Maynard speaking to Declassified yesterday and he reminded the world of the systematic starvation of NICU babies in Gaza by Israel.

He described a newborn baby in desperate need of formula who died on his watch. That baby had no illness. He just needed formula milk, but the doctors watched him die.

Some of his colleagues were arriving from New York to help in Gaza, and the only thing that was removed from them was formula milk. Systenatic starvation of innocent babies. Israeli soldiers hide in their tanks as they launch drones and box bombs from behind computer screens. How brave.

When you kill one human life it’s as if you killed the entirety of humanity. Or did you forget.

One thing for sure, If we don’t stop this genocide, this sadism, then we have as good as normalised the industrial killing of doctors and the starving of newborns.
