This Christmas 2025.
Living through these last three decades, experiencing Christianity morphing into the archetypal evil Jesus warned his followers about. I frequently hide my status as an ordained Christian clergyperson. It rarely advances the dialogue.
Pope Leo XIV is hope, peace, joy, and love for the world, not just for Catholics. A divinely human Prophet, Pastor, and Priest. I am not Catholic, although my spirituality is Celtic and Franciscan. It feels wonderful to have this Pope at this moment in human evolution.
We are responsible (meaning we can make a difference). History shows us Christianity has been a powerful force in building civil society. Christianity has also cooperated with violent, oppressive regimes. Christmas is about turning the power/wealth oppression pyramid upside down.
It is completely ludicrous… the thought that Christianity has slipped so far into the darkness of oppression and violence.
Tonight… this evening, we celebrate the birth of hope for a world of love, joy, and peace.
As for me, I’m going to continue reading Christopher Hale and try to follow the prophetic call coming from Pope Leo.
