It seems so obvious to me & to so many writer friends that the writing, the process, is the point. The long, long, hard struggle is itself the end result, the book a palimpsest. I go to books partly because I want to know: what has it been like for you to be alive? I write, in part, to try to answer that question as truthfully as I can. Every person’s answer will be different & has the potential to be differently astonishing. What on earth AI has to do with any of this is beyond me
