Lithuania is showing what moral clarity looks like.

The Lithuanian government has proposed requiring russian artists and athletes who want to perform in Lithuania to sign a declaration condemning russia’s war against Ukraine. If they refuse, they won’t be allowed to perform.

The proposal would also deny entry to those who support russia’s invasion, participated in it, worked in occupied Ukrainian territories. It would further restrict the purchase of real estate near sensitive military sites by russian residents.

This isn’t “discrimination.” It’s accountability.

For too long, the Kremlin has used culture, sports, and entertainment as instruments of propaganda and soft power. If someone wants the privilege of performing in a democratic country while refusing to condemn a brutal war of aggression, that is a choice - and democracies have every right to respond.

More countries should follow Lithuania’s example.
