The app for independent voices

Some days, following current events just doesn’t appeal to me. Too much in-your-face negative stuff going on.

Don’t get me wrong, this is one Canadian who is watching the train wreck that is today’s America very carefully. There are far too many really awesome people in the U.S. who don’t support this administration’s agenda, and too many evil or ignorant people who do.

So yeah, I care, and I follow it closely.

But it’s Canada Day and I am gonna turn my back to the trials of my friends to the south for just one day. I’ve got music in my ears instead of YouTube, and gardening and a Canada Day party with friends on my mind.

I guess you could call me a dinosaur when it comes to music. At 71 yrs old, it’s mainly classic rock for me. Had a helping of Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Bob Seger and a few other old favorites this morning, and in spite of my urge to forget politics for a day, a lyric jumped out at me. Published almost 50 years ago, it sure seems to have been written for today:

We must keep them away

Or pretty soon we'll pay

And count the cost in sorrow

Sacrifice, the future has its price

And today is only

Yesterday's tomorrow

from Circle of Hands

by Uriah Heap

Album is “Demons and Wizards”

1972

Look up the song - the rest of the lyrics are just as prophetic. Some of the old rockers put out lyrics that are both timeless and timely.

I never considered myself a writer, but I really appreciate so much of the content here on Substack. This is the first time I’ve posted - these thoughts were busting to come out of me. Not sure it’ll happen again, and I doubt many will read it.

That’s OK.

Happy Canada Day, and Happy 4th of July this weekend to those of you that will celebrate it.

If you think the above will relate to someone you know, feel free to restack it. No, I’m not looking for fame or clicks - just an old fart with some thoughts to share.
