Just got off an organizing call with SURJ in which 2,500+ people showed up to figure out what they can do to act in solidarity with those in Minnesota. The primary call to action was to organize or take part in protests at Hilton properties on Friday 1/23 given their willingness to house ICE agents.
That said, I heard about so many other great ideas as well, i.e.:
Organizing neighborhood action groups to escort children into the school building at pickup and drop-off (also: OMG, how has it come to this)
Showing up in droves at Home Depot and Target, which have allowed ICE to set up shop in their parking lots, to clog the checkout lines by purchasing a single container of salt (get it? Salt … melts ice…)
Targeting ICE transportation channels, from holding vigils at local airports to protesting/boycotting rental car companies that rent vehicles to them
Obviously, calling your reps to demand that they not vote to allocate any additional state or federal resources to ICE, but I trust y’all know that by now
Hosting regular potlucks with people in your area where you do some of the above, then come back to someone’s place to hang out and plot your next big group move (cc Elissa Strauss + Garrett Bucks)
Curious to hear if others have encountered effective ways to be in solidarity with folks in MN. If so, please post below. And please feel free to re-stack this if you found it helpful!
