Make money doing the work you believe in

We're seeing a lot of Notes like this and I understand why, but before you weigh in, know this:

If your books and articles, like mine, were fed into AI, that will not cause Pangram flag your writing.

Here’s why:

  1. Pangram flags AI writing, which is detectable because of LLMs’ default voice, which was created after our work was fed into AI, a process called Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF)—which is why AI writing sounds idiotic because it was trained not on our voices but with certain vocal tics and word choices that could only have come from a tech bro's brain. I mean, not everything's a “masterclass” in something.

  2. Pangram doesn’t detect ideas, only writing, i.e., sequences of words (syntax) and word choice (diction).

  3. Your em dashes are safe.

It sucks that Anthropic and OpenAI did that to us, but you have a choice not to pay those people, not to use those LLMs and the companies that rely on them, like Grammarly.

The Pangram problem: AI companies stole hundreds (possibly more than a thousand) of the health articles and medical guides I wrote, as well as at least seven of my novels. Now—shocking—my content is routinely flagged for AI (which I never use) … because the tools recognize style and content that was stolen. The fix isn’t an “AI detector.…
