Once upon a time, a girl was born with a bee living in her throat. Her mother tried everything—honey, incense smoke, resorting to desparate prayer, the village mystic—but the bee stayed. Whenever the girl spoke, people heard a strange humming under her words. The villagers decided she was cursed & her family married her off to a man in a faraway town to be rid of her.

On their wedding night, when her husband approached her, the girl—instead of speaking, sang—and the bee flew out of her throat and stung him. Not knowing what to do, the girl jumped out of the window and stumbled away into a valley of lotus flowers near the house.

There, she chanced upon a confederation of bees who were seeking a queen to unite them all. Seeing her to be the most beautiful of them all, they decided to confer this honor upon her, for everyone knows that most bees are very superficial. Still, the girl was happy to accept the lotus crown and entered her new lotus home.

The location of this exact village where all this took place is unknown and if anyone tries to look for it in the general area it is said they get stung so badly that their lips turn the size of tomatoes and they are never again able to speak.
