Make money doing the work you believe in

Ooh, good question, Margaret! Routine is the short answer.

I play in my closet whenever I have a few minutes. I look at the backward hangers and pair them up with things I’ve had forever and newer things. I hang them together and those are my outfits at some point in the future. Sometimes they sit, waiting for the right occasion.

Every night, I take half an hour before bed and get my outfit ready to go, steam stuff, attach brooches, whatever’s needed. I pre-plan everything, right down to the socks and underwear.

Before I have breakfast I take all my full outfit pictures: the Stair Picture, 2-3 indoor, 2 outdoor. It takes 5 minutes, and explains a lot about my pictures, right?

When I get home, I take the picture of the shoes, bag, belt, scarf - the non-jewelry accoutrements. Then all the jewelry. I put it all away or into the wash (or Limbo).

I then upload all the pictures, edit them, and write both my Substack and my blog concurrently (Substack is every Monday; I blog Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs, Sunday usually). I try to change up what I say about my outfits to keep it interesting for those who read both. If I have time I answer comments and browse other folks’ blogs/’Stacks. All that takes about 2 hours after work. I also put in about 2-3 hours on the weekend.

I take breaks around vacations and holidays, but I always look forward to getting back to it. I love having the record of all of my shenanigans of the past 19+ years.

As for enthusiasm, I’ve always said that as soon as my writing felt like a chore, I would stop. It hasn’t so far.

Thanks, Margaret. ❤️

How do you maintain enthusiasm for blogging and planning outfits? I go into a slump, but you never seem to falter!
