Fritz Vollmar, first Secretary General of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), dies at 99.

Born in Lenzburg, Switzerland, Vollmar led the World Wildlife Fund from 1962 to 1978, during which time the organization supported 1,882 projects in over 100 countries, becoming a globally recognized name in environmental conservation.

In later life, Vollmar was prominent in the World Scout Foundation, serving as Director General from 1978 to 1992, and receiving the organization’s highest honor, the Bronze Wolf Award.
