You Can Give Into Aging or You Can Fight It: I Choose to Fight
Aging is inevitable, but decline doesn’t have to be. Society often tells us to slow down as we grow older, but at 64, I’ve made a different choice. As a masters athlete, I’m actively competing in track events, lifting weights, and pushing my body beyond what’s expected for my age. Rather than surrender to the physical decline that aging brings, I fight it.
Of course, aging has its challenges. My body protests at some of the demands I ask from it, and it doesn’t recover as quickly as it used to, which means I’ve have to continually adapt my physical training. But staying active isn’t just about physical health. It sharpens my mind, boosts my mood, and gives me a sense of purpose. I’ve learned that movement, strength training, and smart recovery are key to maintaining vitality.
The fight against aging isn’t just physical; it’s mental too. Society often tells us that past a certain age, we should step back. But I refuse to accept that my best days are behind me. Every workout and competition is a reminder that age is just a number. It’s not about vanity, but about preserving quality of life.
In the end, we all have a choice. We can give in to the aging process, or we can fight it. I’ve chosen to fight, and it’s made all the difference.
