Johnny White, a 70-year-old Black man, was brutally attacked in Newark, New York, by his 39-year-old white neighbor, Brandon Watt. Watt allegedly beat him in the head with a 2x4, leaving White with a broken nose, broken eye socket, and fractured jaw.

Watt was arrested and charged with second-degree assault (felony), criminal possession of a weapon, and endangering the welfare of a child—because his daughter witnessed the attack.

White's family says Watt had been harassing him for weeks leading up to the assault, including using racial slurs and threatening to 'kick his ass.' Despite this, the case is not currently being investigated as a hate crime—though charges could change after the victim is well enough to give a full statement.
