Dear Justice Sotomayor and your co-dissenters in Skrmetti: At several points in her essay in the Atlantic (see link in reply), Lewis refers to the Cass report. As one example:
“When the court voted 6–3 to uphold the Tennessee law, Sonia Sotomayor claimed in her dissent that “access to care can be a question of life or death.” If she meant any kind of therapeutic support, that might be defensible. But claiming that this is true of medical transition specifically—the type of care being debated in the Skrmetti case—is not supported by the current research.“
Justice Sotomayor also tried to make the case that using puberty blockers to treat precocious puberty but not allowing their use in cases of gender dysphoria was discriminatory.
I thought it might be useful for the dissenters to be introduced to Baroness Cass herself. Here she is, on December 15, 2024, discussing the differences between the two uses of puberty blockers.
To Justice Sotomayor and her co-dissenters: I strongly recommend that you acquaint yourself with the science before you weigh in any further on these cases.
