I keep saying this here and elsewhere, but the Iowa class battleships were obsolete when they were laid down. Bringing them back in the 1980’s was a waste of money. Yeah I know the 16 inch guns terrorized the Iraqi’s in Gulf War but USN would have been better served with more frigates and/or hunter killer subs. But as my dad said at the time, when I was geeking out over the prospect of battleships coming back WELL WE WILL DAMN SURE BE READY FOR THE SECOND BATTLE OF JUTLAND IF THE RED NAVY WANTS TO FIGHT IT. Yeah I also know that the BB Donald 2.0 proposes are not really battleships but very large destroyers/frigates. But that just highlights his ignorance.
