The app for independent voices

I won’t lie. I'm not a big fan of AI-generated content, especially not text. Generating an image to fit your hand-written post is fine in my book, and I do it a lot. It's relevant, and it grabs attention. I also use AI translation throughout the day for my research. And I have Grammarly running to polish up my English, which, after all, is not my first language. But that's where it ends for me as far as AIGC is concerned.

But I make one exception: Google Notebook. When I spend one or two weeks researching and putting together a 10K-word report for Tech Buzz China, I find it hard to pull out key takeaways because I'm so interested in all the details, and it's hard for me to wind it down to 10 key insights. So I use Google Notebook for that.

Lately, I have gotten fascinated by running those 10K-word reports through Notebook to generate summary videos. They are really, really good and a great alternative for those who don't want to or have time to read 10K words of details.

I normally generate the video from a PDF print of the report, download the results, and edit it in video editing software, changing some cheesy pictures and maybe cutting out a few (very rare) misinterpretations.

I have even gone back to some older reports to generate videos for them. Here's one from a report I wrote last May on Alibaba's second-hand e-commerce platform, Xianyu.
