It's good that we're investing into a Starlink alternative. Don't be fooled into thinking that what's being done is anywhere near sufficient, in time, or even the right thing at all.

We're playing the same old game: extensive requirements writing, handing tons of money to one or two prime contractors with a proven track record of sluggish execution and cost overruns, and avoiding industry building like the plague.
An open standard with many suppliers is the more elegant option, plus it kills two birds with one stone, by building industry instead of just feeding the same fat pigeons.
