Exactly five years ago today, on July 2, 2021, Netflix released Fear Street Part One: 1994 – the first chapter of the incredible horror trilogy based on the legendary R.L. Stine books. This film instantly became a love letter to classic 90s slashers and breathed new life into the genre.

The story takes us to the cursed town of Shadyside, where terrible tragedies have been happening for centuries. A group of local teenagers suddenly finds themselves at the center of a nightmare when the vengeful spirit of the witch Sarah Fier awakens. One by one, the residents turn into ruthless killers, and the friends must fight for their lives while trying to uncover the dark truth behind the ancient curse that has haunted their town for over 300 years.

Atmospheric, bloody, full of 90s vibes, great practical effects, and real tension — this is a perfect horror movie for fans of Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and classic slashers.
